Grandland X Auxiliary Battery Error

I'm having trouble with my 2021 Vauxhall Grandland X Hybrid, about 179k kilometers on it. I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, and my OBD reader shows an error related to the auxiliary battery. The car seems a bit sluggish when starting, almost like the battery is weak, and I've noticed some general electrical weirdness. I'm guessing the auxiliary battery isn't charging properly. Has anyone else had this?

Auxiliary battery issues are quite common in hybrids, especially with that mileage. Have you checked the voltage of the auxiliary battery? A healthy battery should read around 12.6 volts when the car is off. If it's significantly lower, say around 11.8 volts or less, it's likely not holding a charge – think of it like a leaky bucket. Also, is the error message persistent, or does it come and go?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't measured the voltage myself, but that's a good idea. I'll try to get a multimeter and check it out. The error message is pretty consistent; it's there almost every time I start the car. If the voltage is low, what does that usually mean? Is it just a bad battery, or could there be something else draining it?

A consistently low voltage, coupled with your symptoms, strongly suggests a failing auxiliary battery. While there's a small chance of a parasitic drain, the age and mileage of your Grandland X point to simple battery failure. It's like a lightbulb that's burned out. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop with hybrid experience for a diagnostic check and likely battery replacement. Ignoring it could lead to further electrical issues.

Thanks for the advice! I checked the voltage, and it was indeed low. I took it to a local shop, and they confirmed the auxiliary battery was toast. They replaced it for 290€, and now everything seems to be working fine. Appreciate the help!
