Grandland X Cylinder Pressure Fluctuation
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Vauxhall Grandland X diesel is experiencing cylinder pressure fluctuation, higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and an illuminated check engine light. Possible causes include engine knocking, fuel injector issues, timing belt problems, spark plug faults, or a head gasket failure. However, a faulty sensor, such as the mass airflow sensor, could also lead to these symptoms by causing misfires and incorrect readings. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed at a trusted workshop to identify and resolve the issue, potentially saving time and money.

Thanks for the quick reply! What kind of sensor was faulty on your Megane? Did it directly relate to the engine cylinders?

From what I remember, it was the mass airflow sensor that was faulty on my Renault Megane. While it didn't directly relate to the engine cylinders, the incorrect readings caused the engine to misfire, leading to cylinder pressure issues and all those lovely symptoms. Given that it's a fairly complex system, I'd strongly advise getting it checked out at a trusted workshop rather than trying to fix it yourself without the proper diagnostic tools. It could save you a lot of time and money in the long run!

Took it to the shop, and you were right! It was a consequential error! It turns out that a faulty sensor was causing the cylinder pressure fluctuation. Repair cost was 0€ because of the warranty. Thanks for the advice!

That sounds unsettling. I had similar symptoms with my old Renault Megane, although it was a petrol engine. The symptoms were almost identical: engine light, poor fuel economy, and a definite loss of power. Have you checked for any error codes? In my case, it turned out to be a dodgy sensor causing consequential errors.
