Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked for error codes myself, to be honest. I'm not sure how to do that. Could a sensor fault really cause that much smoke? I was reading online about DPF cleaning and filter replacement, which sound pretty expensive.

Yes, a faulty sensor can definitely cause those symptoms. I was surprised too! Though since you're seeing smoke with a diesel engine, a blocked DPF is a very real possibility and those can cause serious issues. Considering your mileage and the symptoms, it might be time to visit a workshop. They'll be able to diagnose the problem accurately and give you a quote.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to a workshop and get it checked out properly. It turns out my worries were right: the DPF was indeed defective. The total repair cost, including a new filter, came to 1550€. Thanks again for your help!

I have a Vauxhall Grandland X as well, though I'm running a petrol engine. I did have similar symptoms of power loss and smoke a while back. Turned out to be a faulty sensor related to the fuel efficiency system. Have you checked for any error codes? It might be worth looking into before assuming it's the DPF.
