Grandland X engine stalling and fuel composition error
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Vauxhall Grandland X hybrid experienced engine stalling and a check engine light indicating an 'incorrect fuel composition' error. The issue was suspected to be caused by a defective cable or plug connection, leading the system to misinterpret the fuel composition. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that a corroded connector on the fuel composition sensor was the problem, which was resolved by cleaning and replacing the connector.

My fuel economy seems normal, and I haven't changed the fuel filter recently. But wouldn't a clogged fuel filter affect performance all the time, not just at idle, and trigger other codes? Is it really possible a faulty connection would cause the system to misread the fuel?

Okay, with normal fuel economy, and given the error code and your engine stalling only at idle, a defective cable or plug connection is a strong suspect. The computer 'thinks' there's a fuel issue because the sensor signal is corrupted. Like a dodgy wire making your TV show the wrong colors! I'd advise getting it checked at a workshop. Don't want it getting worse.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was a corroded connector on the fuel composition sensor. They cleaned it and replaced the connector, and the error is gone. Total cost 95€!

That's a weird one! Incorrect fuel composition errors can be tricky. Is your fuel economy normal, or have you noticed it's gotten worse? Also, when was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Perhaps fuel isn't getting through as it should, like trying to suck lemonade through a tiny straw!?
