Thanks for the quick reply. Where on the shift knob should I check for a 'loose connection'? What diagnostic tool would you recommend for getting the error code, given the symptoms?

Honestly, I'm no expert, but on my Astra, it was just wiggling the shift knob that made the display flicker. If wiggling it does nothing, it's probably not that simple. And without the error code, it's hard to say much else. It does sound like an affected control unit is defective. Best to get it to a workshop to read the error code and then they can give you a proper diagnosis, as I'm just guessing here.

I appreciate the advice. I saw a technician, and they confirmed a defective control unit. It needed replacing, which cost 1000€. It's fixed now. Thanks again for your help.

That sounds rough! I had a similar thing happen on my old Astra, though it was just a flickering display. Have you checked the shift knob itself? Sometimes a loose connection there can cause weird electrical issues. Is the error code in the memory something you can share? That might help narrow down the problem.
