Yes, the unclean shifts are most noticeable at lower speeds. And yes, there is gear grinding all the time, especially when the engine is cold. Can you share some more details? Did you resolve the issue?

Sounds like the same problem. I'd recommend getting it to a reliable workshop ASAP. A defective transfer case can cause all sorts of damage if ignored and you definitely don't want to run it dry if the case has a leak.

Thanks for the advice! Dropped it off at the shop today; they confirmed it was the transfer case. Repair cost is estimated at 330€. Appreciate the help!
