Grandland X rain light sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Vauxhall Grandland X is experiencing a rain-light sensor fault, leading to issues with automatic wiping, headlight control, speedometer dimming, and lights activation. The problem is suspected to be caused by bubbles forming under the gel pad between the sensor and the windshield, particularly noticeable in humid conditions or after sun exposure. The suggested solution is to have the gel pad checked and potentially replaced at a workshop, which resolved the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I noticed it more when the weather changes or after it's been sitting in the sun. What do you mean by 'gel pad'?

There's a gel pad between the sensor and the windshield. Sometimes bubbles form under it, messing with the sensor's readings. It could be the reason why you get a fault. I suggest getting it checked at the workshop.

Thanks, I will do that. Apparently the bubbles were forming under the gel pad of the windshield. Repair cost 62€. All working now!

I had similar issues with my Grandland X. Sounds like the rain-light sensor. Does it happen mostly when it's humid or after the car has been sitting in the sun? I'm curious if the gel pad is the culprit.
