Grandland X Start Stop Problem

Thanks! I haven't tested the battery under load specifically. Just checked the voltage with a multimeter, and it seemed okay at rest, around 12.5V. But maybe that's not enough? How did you diagnose the issue on your BMW?

You are correct; a resting voltage of 12.5V doesn't necessarily indicate the battery's overall health, particularly its capacity to deliver sufficient current under load. In my case, the issue with my BMW was a failing auxiliary battery, specifically for the start-stop system. While the main battery appeared functional, the auxiliary battery's inability to maintain adequate voltage during engine restarts triggered the errors. Given the complexity, I would recommend a comprehensive diagnostic assessment at a reputable service center to ascertain the true state of your battery. I hope you solve your issue with the Grandland soon!

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation and advice! I booked it into the local garage, and they confirmed it was indeed a failing battery. New battery and a reset of the error codes set me back 290€, but at least the start-stop is working again now!

I understand your frustration. I had a similar experience with my previous vehicle, a 2018 BMW 3 Series diesel. The symptoms you described are indicative of a potential battery issue. In modern vehicles with start-stop, the battery plays a crucial role during engine restarts. A discharged or defective battery can cause the system to malfunction. Have you had the battery's voltage tested under load?
