Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the fluid for particles, but I did check the level, and it seemed okay. If it's the converter, is a rebuild a possibility, or am I looking at a full transmission replacement?

Given the symptoms and mileage, a full transmission replacement is often the recommended course of action to ensure reliability and longevity. A rebuild might be a temporary fix if significant wear is present within the transmission, but the source of the metal debris needs to be determined. Consult a reputable workshop with experience in automatic transmissions. They can provide a proper diagnosis and advise on the best course of action considering the age and mileage of your vehicle. Best of luck!

Appreciate the detailed insight! Took it to a trusted shop, and you nailed it – torque converter failure. Ended up costing me 2120€ for a new converter and labour. Runs like a dream now, though! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Greetings! The symptoms you’re describing, combined with the error code pointing towards the torque converter lock-up clutch, strongly suggest a defect within the automatic transmission converter itself. Slipping gears and grinding noises are classic indicators when the lock-up function fails. Has the transmission fluid been checked recently for metallic particles, as this could indicate internal wear?
