Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with, good to know I'm not the only one who's had this headache. I reckon I'll take your advice and head to the dealer instead of risking it with an independent garage. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much the whole thing set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other quirks? Cheers!

Hey again! Glad I could help! Yeah, about the costs, it set me back exactly 1000.00 € to fix the faulty TCU. I know it's not cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny. Since getting it fixed at the dealer, the transmission's been working like a charm, smooth as silk, no more grinding, and those nasty shifting problems are completely gone. I've put about 5,000 km on it since the repair, and it's running just like when I first got the car. No quirks, no issues, nothing to worry about. Going to the dealer was definitely the right call, they knew exactly what they were dealing with and had all the right diagnostic tools. Trust me, you're making the right choice going to the dealer. Those transmission control units are pretty complex bits of kit, and you want someone who really knows what they're doing. Let me know how it goes when you get yours sorted! Cheers!

Thanks again for all the info! Just wanted to update you on what happened. Took your advice and went to the Vauxhall dealer last week. You were spot on, it was the TCU! Ended up costing me 950€, which wasn't as bad as I'd feared after seeing your bill. The mechanics were really professional and explained everything clearly. They fixed it in about a day and a half, and I've already put about 500km on it since then. What a difference! No more grinding sounds, and the gear changes are butter smooth now. Feels like driving a completely different car. You were absolutely right about going to the dealer, they had all the proper diagnostic equipment and knew exactly what they were doing. Much better than risking it with my old mechanic who probably would've just scratched his head at it. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction. Really saved me from potentially bigger headaches down the road! Cheers!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 Vauxhall Grandland X (also petrol). The symptoms were pretty much identical to what you're describing, rough shifting and that nasty grinding noise. Last month, I took it to the main Vauxhall dealer because I wanted to be sure. Turned out it was indeed the transmission control unit (TCU). The mechanic showed me that the unit was failing to properly communicate with other systems, causing those harsh gear changes. They had to replace the entire TCU and recalibrate the transmission. It was a serious job that took them two days to complete, but it fixed the problem completely. The transmission now shifts smoothly like new. Since you're dealing with transmission issues, I'd strongly recommend going to a certified Vauxhall dealer rather than an independent mechanic. These modern transmission systems are quite complex and need proper diagnostic equipment. Best of luck with your repair!
