GT Roadster Camshaft Sensor Issue

My 2019 Mercedes GT Roadster with a gasoline engine is acting up. It starts poorly, engine power is down, and the error memory shows a camshaft sensor fault. I'm suspecting a bad cable or plug connection. Anyone seen this before?

Your situation sounds rather familiar. I own a GT Roadster as well, although a slightly different model year. I experienced similar symptoms – poor starting and a noticeable decrease in engine performance. It felt like the engine was constantly on the verge of stalling. In my case, the issue also pointed towards the camshaft sensor. Have you checked the crankshaft position sensor? Sometimes issues with that can throw off the timing and create similar problems, a bit like a domino effect in the engine's intricate system.

Crankshaft position sensor, you say? I hadn't considered that. Did your issue resolve itself after replacing the camshaft sensor, or did you end up replacing the crankshaft sensor as well?

I would advise against jumping to conclusions and replacing components prematurely. While a faulty crankshaft sensor can indeed mimic camshaft sensor symptoms, it is always best to proceed with a systematic diagnosis. In my situation, the camshaft sensor was indeed the culprit. The issue with the crankshaft was hypothetical. Given that your error memory specifically mentions the camshaft sensor, it is likely that is where the problem lies. I would strongly recommend consulting a qualified technician. They can perform a proper diagnostic and confirm the source of the problem before you invest in any replacement parts.

Thanks for the insight. Turns out it was indeed the camshaft sensor. The cable was a bit loose. A local workshop charged me 95€ to fix it.
