GT86 Generator Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota GT86 was experiencing reduced engine power, warning lights, hard starts, flickering lights, and an error code, suggesting a generator issue. Voltage checks indicated a drop below nominal charging voltage, and the starter motor was laboring. While a failing battery was considered, the symptoms and error code pointed to a faulty alternator. A professional diagnosis confirmed the generator was defective, and replacing it resolved the issues.

Could a degraded battery really cause all these symptoms, including the generator error code? Is there a specific diagnostic you'd recommend to rule out the battery?

A faulty battery could contribute, but the error code and voltage drop suggest the alternator is the problem. Given the symptoms and your checks, get it checked by a professional. They can confirm and give you a repair quote.

I took it to a workshop; they confirmed a defective generator and replaced it for 960€. The car now works as expected.

Sounds like a classic alternator issue. Have you checked the battery? A failing battery can cause similar symptoms and strain the charging system.
