GT86 Power Window Failure

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2019 Toyota GT86 with a gasoline engine. The power windows suddenly stopped working, both of them. I recently replaced the car battery. Now, neither window will move, and there's an error stored, although I don't know the code yet. Could the battery replacement have caused this? Any ideas on what to check before I take it to a shop?

Hey, I had a similar thing happen with my GT86! After changing the battery, the power windows went kaput. Did you try any kind of reset procedure? Sometimes the system just needs to relearn the window positions. Have you checked the fuses? That would be the first logical thing to do.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't tried any reset procedure. I didn't even know there was one. Is it something I can do myself, or do I need special tools? And where exactly are the fuses located that control the windows? Is there a specific fuse number I should be looking for? I'm not super experienced with car electronics, so any detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it's probably the same issue. I tried fiddling with it myself for ages, looking up fuse diagrams and trying random button combinations, but nothing worked. Ended up taking it to a workshop, and they sorted it out pretty quickly. Some cars need a proper initialization after a battery change, and it sounds like the GT86 is one of them. Honestly, save yourself the headache and get it checked. You could end up making things worse.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. They said the window regulators needed to be re-initialized after the battery change. Apparently, the system lost its settings. They hooked it up to their diagnostic tool, ran the initialization procedure, and now everything is working perfectly again. Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
