GT86 VANOS Solenoid Issue

I have a potential mechanical issue with my 2018 Toyota GT86, gasoline engine, 72195 km. The check engine light is on, and fuel consumption has increased. Diagnostics suggest a fault within the inlet VANOS mechanics. Could a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or an inconsistent power supply be the cause?

I had a similar issue with my GT86, it sounds like your VANOS solenoid is on its way out. It's like a tiny gatekeeper for your variable timing. Have you noticed any rough idling or hesitation during acceleration, almost like the engine is misfiring?

Thank you for your insight. While rough idling has not been apparent, the hesitation during acceleration is indeed noticeable. Could you elaborate on the specifics of the issue you encountered, particularly any diagnostic steps or observations that led you to suspect the VANOS solenoid?

It's tricky, isn't it? At first, I thought it was bad gasoline, but the problem persisted. There are a few things that can cause your symptoms, like the timing chain. Based on what you're seeing, it really does sound like the VANOS solenoid. Honestly, I'd get it checked out at a trusted workshop, they will be able to confirm for sure.

I appreciate your assistance and sharing your experience. I will proceed with a professional diagnostic assessment at a reputable workshop. Following the inspection, the mechanics have confirmed the defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves and quoted 250€ for the repairs.
