GX Generator Failure

Alright, Lexus GX gurus, I'm pulling my hair out! My 2006 GX with a gasoline engine is acting possessed. I've got just shy of 110000 km on the clock and now the engine power is way down, the battery light is mocking me from the dash, and it barely starts sometimes. Plus, the lights are flickering like a disco. My cheapo OBD reader is showing some error, but I suspect the generator is toast. Anyone else seen this madness?

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a failing generator. Have you had the battery and charging system tested to confirm the generator's output? Reduced engine power could be a secondary effect of the electrical system struggling. A faulty generator can indeed cause the issues you're experiencing.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't had it properly tested yet, just eyeballing it. If the generator is on its way out, would that also cause misfires? Seems like it's running rough sometimes too.

While a failing generator primarily affects the electrical system, the reduced voltage can, in some cases, indirectly impact engine performance and potentially contribute to misfires. Given the age and symptoms, a comprehensive diagnostic check by a qualified technician is recommended to confirm the generator's condition and rule out other potential causes. It might be time to visit a workshop.

Appreciate the solid advice! Took it to a mechanic, and you nailed it – the generator was kaput. 960€ later, it's got a new one and runs like a top. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
