GX Headlight Range Control Malfunction
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a malfunction with the headlight range control on a 2006 Lexus GX, indicated by an error message and warning light. The problem involves the low beams pointing incorrectly, potentially worsened by extra weight in the vehicle. A possible cause identified is a defective servomotor in the headlight assembly. The suggested solution is to have a professional diagnose and repair the issue, as it may require specialized equipment and expertise.

Interesting! Thanks. I hadn't specifically noticed the weight correlation, but now that you mention it, it does seem worse when I have cargo in the back. Servomotors, you say? Is that difficult to diagnose or repair? I'm reasonably handy, but I don't want to get in over my head.

Yeah, the extra weight definitely messed with mine. Honestly, diagnosing the servomotors specifically can be a pain without the right equipment. I ended up taking mine to a workshop. They confirmed it was a defective servomotor in the headlight. They quoted me around 1040€ for the repair, including the part and labor. It's not cheap, but at least it fixed the issue. Given the error codes you're seeing, and the symptoms, I'd strongly recommend having a professional take a look. Could save you a lot of headache!

Okay, that's very helpful. I appreciate the insight. It sounds like a trip to the workshop is inevitable. I'll mention the servomotor issue and hopefully, they can confirm it quickly. Thanks again!

I've got a GX too, and that sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my auto-leveling headlights. The beam adjustment was all over the place. Is it worse when you're carrying extra weight in the back? Mine seemed to go haywire especially then. I was thinking about the servomotors in the headlight assembly. Have you looked into that?
