H1 battery discharge

Hi, I have a 2017 Hyundai H1, gasoline engine, with 86270 km. Recently the battery keeps getting heavily discharged. I'm seeing an error message in the speedometer, weak or flickering lights, and there's an error stored in the error memory. Starting the engine is also a struggle. Could a defective battery sensor be the cause?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Hyundai H1 with a gasoline engine is experiencing battery discharge issues, indicated by error messages, weak lights, and starting difficulties. A defective battery sensor is suspected as the cause, potentially leading to incorrect battery state reporting and charging issues. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked by a workshop, which confirmed the faulty sensor as the problem, resolving the issue after replacement.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my H1. It was like the battery was constantly being drained, even when the car was off. Does your alternator seem to be charging properly? What voltage are you seeing across the battery terminals when the engine is running?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the alternator voltage yet. Is it possible for a faulty sensor to cause all these symptoms, even if the alternator is working as expected? Is there something I can test to confirm this?

Yes, it's entirely possible. Think of it like a leaky faucet, constantly dripping even when the main water supply is fine. A faulty battery sensor can misreport the battery's state, causing the system to overcompensate or not charge correctly, leading to a discharged battery. Honestly, with those symptoms and error codes, I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop. In my case, that was the issue.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was a defective battery sensor. The repair cost was 315€. Everything's working perfectly now!
