Headlight Washer System Failure

Right, so the headlight cleaning system on my 2006 Mini Cooper Diesel seems to have given up the ghost. Now, the windshield washer jets have also stopped functioning. I'm suspecting a defective cable connection to the pump, or perhaps a relay issue. Anyone encountered something similar?

That's a weird one. I had something similar happen with my old Peugeot. The windshield washer stopped working, and it turned out to be a clog in the pump. Have you checked the reservoir to make sure it's not empty, or that the hose isn't pinched somewhere? Also, is the headlight cleaning system making any noise when you try to activate it, or is it completely silent?

Interesting. When you say clog, are we talking about the pump itself, or is there some kind of filter I should be looking for? Is it possible that a malfunction in the headlight washer system could completely disable the windshield washer?

Yeah, in my case, the clog was inside the pump itself. Bits of debris had gotten in there somehow. As for your Mini, it's entirely possible that a fault in the headlight washer could disable the windshield washer. They might be on the same circuit or share a pump. Honestly, if you've checked the basics like fluid level and obvious hose problems, it might be time to have a workshop take a look.

Update it was indeed the connection to the headlight washer pump. Seems the hose had a small leak, causing a short when the system tried to activate. Replaced the faulty wiring and now everything is working perfectly. Total cost was 165€, parts and labor. Thanks for the insight!
