Heating and defrosting problems with the Audi A1: experiences and tips for repair

Mirror doesn't defrost

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hello everyone! I have a problem with my Audi A1 (petrol engine, year of manufacture 2012, 99631 km driven). The heating/air conditioning system is not working properly and the mirror no longer defrosts. I suspect that the water valve of the cooling circuit is damaged. Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how the repair went at the mechanic? I don't want to repeat the last visit to the garage... Many thanks in advance!

Hey, I once had a similar problem with my Audi A3 (diesel, year of manufacture 2015, 78560 km run). In my case, it was the air conditioning compressor that was no longer working properly. The mechanic had to replace the entire compressor. The water valve of the cooling circuit was not the problem for me. It was quite a procedure, so I can understand why you don't want to go back to the garage. I can only recommend that you get it checked out before any major damage occurs. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for the quick input. My A1 is also really acting up at the moment. Interesting that the air conditioning compressor was the culprit in your case. Can you still remember how much it cost you? And did you have any other problems afterwards? Do you know what it's like when you get the impression that something new has come up after the repair? I look forward to hearing about your experiences!

Hey, I'm glad I could help! I remember that the hole in my wallet really hurt back then. The story with the air conditioning compressor was really expensive. But back to your Audi A1, I had the water valve in the cooling circuit checked after my last visit to the garage. They repaired it without any problems. So far so good, the problem hasn't recurred since. Your question about new problems seems very familiar to me. Sometimes you really get the feeling that after every repair, the next part gives up the ghost. This time it was the fuse that was faulty. That cost me an extra €50. But at least there have been no more surprises so far. In short, it doesn't hurt to inform yourself thoroughly and have things checked regularly. We're not experts, are we? So let the mechanic have a go and let's hope for the best!

Absolutely, I also have the impression that something new is always coming along. But hey, thanks for sharing your experiences with the air conditioning compressor and the water valve of the cooling circuit! Your experiences are really helpful in giving me an idea of what to expect. I'm a little reassured to hear that you didn't have any other major problems straight after the repair. You're right, I'm not an expert either... A visit to the mechanic is definitely on the cards. I just hope that the costs stay within reasonable limits. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for your input and sympathy! Stay healthy and hopefully no more breakdowns will come our way!

Hi! I'm experiencing issues with the heating and defrosting system in my petrol Audi A3 from 2013 with 105 640 km. The heater isn't warming up properly, and the defroster takes too long to clear the windshield. Any advice on diagnosing or fixing these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

The issue you're experiencing could be due to a variety of reasons. A common cause is a malfunctioning thermostat that isn't allowing the engine to warm up properly. You could start by checking the coolant level. If it's low, it might not be able to circulate heat properly. If the coolant level is fine, the thermostat might be stuck open. This is a more complex issue and might require a mechanic's help. Remember, issues with heating and defrosting can be safety hazards, so it's important to get them checked out as soon as possible.
