Had similar symptoms on my 2020 Cherokee Hybrid. The traction control system started acting erratically and the steering became noticeably heavier. The electronic stability warning light came on intermittently. The issue turned out to be a faulty steering angle sensor that was incorrectly communicating with other automotive sensors. This caused the power steering system to malfunction and the traction control to engage out of nowhere. The repair required: Complete diagnostic scan, Recalibration of the steering sensor, Reprogramming of the electronic stability control module, System reset and road testing This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention as it affected multiple safety systems. The sensor failure could have led to complete power steering loss and disabled critical stability features. The steering angle recalibration procedure must be done with specialized diagnostic equipment. Regular alignment shops often lack these capabilities. Best to have this checked at a dealer or specialized shop that can properly diagnose and reset the electronic systems. Important to address this quickly as incorrect sensor readings can cause additional wear on steering components and compromise vehicle safety systems.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I had nearly identical problems with my Jeep Compass, heavy steering and safety system warnings. The wheel alignment shop couldnt fix it but the dealer found multiple sensor failures in the electronic stability system. The repair involved recalibrating several automotive sensors. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was? Just wondering how it compares to what I paid. Also curious if youve had any lingering issues since getting it fixed? My steering has been perfect but occasionally the traction control light still flickers.

The steering angle sensor malfunction repair came to 195 Euro, which covered the full diagnostic testing and sensor recoding. No issues since the fix, the electronic stability control and traction control systems are working flawlessly. The heavy steering completely resolved after addressing the sensor failure. When automotive sensors need recalibration, its crucial to get it done at a facility with the right diagnostic equipment. Regular wheel alignment shops often miss these electronic issues. The steering column and related sensors form a complex system that requires specialized knowledge to repair correctly. Going to a qualified mechanic who understood these alignment problems made all the difference. The repair has held up perfectly for several months now, with no warning lights or steering issues recurring. If your traction control light still flickers, you might want a follow-up check. Sometimes sensor replacement or additional calibration is needed to fully resolve intermittent electronic issues.

Just got back from the dealer and wanted to close out this thread. The total repair cost was 220 Euro which covered fixing multiple sensor failures and recalibrating the stability control system. The alignment problems turned out to be connected to faulty readings from the steering angle sensor, just as suggested here. The repair process took about 3 hours. They ran a complete diagnostic scan, replaced the main steering sensor, and recalibrated all the connected automotive sensors. The steering is now perfectly smooth and the heavy feeling is completely gone. No more warning lights or traction control issues either. This experience taught me not to waste time at regular alignment shops for these kinds of electronic issues. Having a dealer properly diagnose and fix the sensor failure saved me from potential bigger problems down the road. For anyone facing similar symptoms, heavy steering, stability warnings, shaky wheel, definitely get it checked by a shop that specializes in electronic systems. Regular alignment shops just dont have the right equipment for these sensor-related problems.
