Help wanted with Audi Q7 Diesel 2013

Hi community, I've recently started having some problems with my 2013 Audi Q7 diesel. When I accelerate, black smoke comes out of the exhaust and the check engine light is constantly on. Also, the car takes longer to start when cold, the engine power has decreased and it jerks when accelerating. Fuel consumption is also higher than usual and there is a strong smell of exhaust fumes. I suspect a malfunction of the fuel pressure sensor, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have experience with this and can help me narrow down the problem? How was this solved at your garage? Many thanks in advance for your advice. Cheers!

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Audi Q7 diesel is experiencing issues such as black smoke from the exhaust, a persistent check engine light, delayed cold starts, reduced engine power, jerking during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and a strong exhaust smell. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning fuel pressure sensor, but it could also be due to a clogged fuel filter, turbo problems, or injector issues. The suggested solution is to visit a garage for a thorough check, particularly focusing on the fuel filter, given the vehicle's high mileage and the sudden onset of symptoms.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Audi Q5 diesel (model is a bit smaller but same make). Now, I have some experience with cars, but I'm definitely not an expert. At my garage, it ended up being the fuel filter that was clogged. I paid 205 euros for the replacement and labor. It could possibly be the same problem for you, but it could also have other causes, such as problems with the turbo or injectors. Could you perhaps tell me a bit more about the circumstances? Did the problem occur suddenly or did it develop slowly? Did you hear any noises or was the smoke constantly there? All this info could help narrow down the problem even further. Hope this helps somehow!

Thank you for your reply! Yes, the problem occurred quite suddenly. There were no noticeable noises and the black smoke came quite unexpectedly. My Audi Q7 already has 301478 kilometers on the clock and the last service was about 8 months ago. Maybe I've put it off too long. I think I'll go to the garage and have the fuel filter checked more thoroughly. Thanks again for your advice!

No problem, always happy to help! Yes, it definitely sounds like a trip to the garage would be a good idea. With that kind of mileage, it's entirely possible that the fuel filter is causing problems. Hopefully it's nothing more serious. Get back to me when you have more information or when the problem is fixed. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it gets fixed quickly and cheaply. All the best and happy driving!
