HHR O2 Sensor Error
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Chevy HHR is experiencing a check engine light due to an O2 sensor error, leading to decreased fuel efficiency. The initial suspicion is a bad connection at the sensor plug. After checking the sensor's resistance and considering the impact of a faulty connection on fuel consumption, it is confirmed that corrosion in the connector was the issue. Replacing the connector resolved the problem.

Yeah, I checked the resistance on the sensor itself, seems within spec. Why would a bad connection cause higher fuel consumption?

Hmm, if the sensor isn't reading right because of a bad connection, the computer probably thinks the air-fuel mixture is off, right? So it dumps in more fuel to compensate? Sounds like a trip to the shop to me, if you're already messing with a multimeter!

Thanks for the input! Turns out it WAS the connector – corrosion. 95€ at the shop for a new one and all is well.

O2 sensor, huh? Check engine light always makes me nervous! Could be a million things. You sure it's the connection? Did you try cleaning the contacts or anything? Maybe just needs a new sensor?
