HHR System Readiness Incomplete
Summary of the thread
The 2009 Chevy HHR is experiencing a system readiness issue, with a constant error message on the speedometer. The problem may be linked to a recent connection to an OBD2 reader, resulting in error code P0420, indicating a catalyst system efficiency issue. While the OBD reset itself shouldn't cause major issues, the error code suggests a potential catalyst inefficiency. A drive cycle resolved the problem, setting all monitors to green.

Thanks for the reply! The error code was P0420, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). No work done on the exhaust, though. Could the OBD reset really bork things up this badly, though?

Thank you for providing the error code, P0420, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). I had a similar code stored in my Volvo, preventing the readiness monitors from setting correctly. The OBD reset itself typically should not corrupt the entire system, but the code suggests a potential catalyst inefficiency issue which leads to incomplete system readiness due to the fault code being present. It is advised that you take your Chevrolet HHR to a certified workshop so they can diagnose it professionally.

Turns out all I needed was a drive cycle! No joke. All monitors are green. Thanks for the advice, even though it wasn’t needed!

Good day. I understand you are experiencing issues with your Chevrolet HHR. I encountered a similar issue in my experience with a 2014 Volvo S60. The OBD readiness monitors were not setting after performing diagnostics. It could be a potentially complex problem with several components affecting the system. To delve deeper, I have a few questions. Can you provide the specific error code recorded when the vehicle was connected to the OBD2 scanner? Additionally, have any recent repairs or modifications involving the exhaust system been carried out?
