Hiace Battery Sensor Issue

My 2004 Toyota Hiace with a gasoline engine has a heavily discharged battery. Mileage is 198793 km. I'm seeing an error message in the speedometer, weak lights, an error stored in memory, and a weak battery when starting. I suspect a defective battery sensor. Thoughts?

I had similar issues with my Hiace. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections? A parasitic battery drain could also cause this if the terminals are fine. You mentioned an error in memory - can you pull the exact code?

Terminals are clean and tight. I did a quick check for parasitic draw and didn't find anything obvious, but I'll re-check more thoroughly. Unfortunately I don't have the error code at hand, but I did check the error memory.

Okay. A faulty battery sensor is plausible, considering the symptoms and your checks. Given the intermittent nature and error codes, it's worth getting a proper diagnostic scan at a workshop. Could be an electrical system issue.

Turns out it was the battery sensor, as suspected. Workshop confirmed it, and the repair cost 315€. Replacing the sensor resolved all the symptoms.
