Hiace check engine light air valve
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Toyota Hiace owner experienced a persistent check engine light, suspecting an issue with the air valve, possibly due to a faulty hose connection. A suggestion was made to check the manifold pressure, as idle problems can be linked to vacuum leaks in the air supply system. It was advised to have a professional workshop diagnose and fix the issue. The problem was confirmed to be the hose connection to the air valve, which was repaired, resolving the check engine light issue.

Manifold pressure, right. I'll have a look for that. Is it a tricky fix or should I just book it into a shop?

Confirming that a defective hose connection to the air valve can indeed trigger those symptoms. Given that it involves the air intake and affects manifold pressure, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll have the tools to properly diagnose and address potential vacuum leaks.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop. Turns out it was indeed the hose connection to the air valve, just like I thought. They fixed it for 175€. Check engine light is gone!

I had a similar issue with my Hiace. It sounds like it could be related to the air supply system. Have you checked the manifold pressure? Idle problems can sometimes be linked to vacuum leaks in that area.
