Hiace headlight range control fault
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Toyota Hiace with a diesel engine developed a fault with the headlight range control at 134,489 km, causing the low beams to point incorrectly and triggering a warning light. The issue was suspected to be a defective servomotor within the adaptive headlight's auto-leveling system. After checking electrical connectors, the problem persisted, leading to a workshop visit where the servomotor was confirmed as the fault. The solution involved replacing the entire headlight unit to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, they are the adaptive type, the ones that move slightly when you start the engine. They do move, but very little, and not consistently. Does that sound like the same issue you had?

Indeed, that mirrors my experience precisely. The servomotor is almost certainly the culprit. Unfortunately, there isn't a reliable DIY fix for this. A diagnostic check at a reputable workshop would confirm this, but be prepared for a replacement. From my experience, it's best to replace the entire headlight unit, as the servomotor is not always available separately. It's not cheap, I am afraid.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I took it to the workshop, and as you predicted, it was indeed a defective servomotor in the headlight unit. Had the unit replaced - cost me 1040€ all in. At least it's sorted now. Cheers!

I own a Hiace myself, and your issue sounds remarkably similar to a problem I encountered some time ago. Are your headlights the adaptive type? The symptoms you describe, particularly the inconsistent low beam direction and the stored error code, strongly suggest a fault within the headlight's auto-leveling system. Is the range control reacting at all?
