Hiace Overheating Thermostat

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with my 2020 Toyota Hiace (gasoline engine). It's overheating like crazy, and takes ages to warm up. My mileage is at 61625 km. Could it be a dodgy temperature sensor or maybe the cooling fan? I checked for coolant leaks around the thermostat housing, but everything seems dry. I'm stumped!

I had a similar issue with my Hiace. Is your engine overheating, or does the temperature gauge just climb quickly? It might be a defective map thermostat; that's often the culprit.

Thanks! So, when you say "map thermostat", are you referring to the thermostat itself, or is it something different? Was it causing both overheating and slow warm-up for you, too?

Yes, I am talking about the thermostat itself. In my experience, a defective thermostat can certainly cause both overheating and extended warm-up times. Given the symptoms, and especially if there are no visible coolant leaks, the thermostat is the most probable cause. I suggest that you take your vehicle to a workshop.

Thanks a bunch! Took it to a shop, and you were spot on - defective thermostat. Cost me around 350€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the help!
