Hiace parking assist failure

Hi, I have a 2004 Toyota Hiace with a diesel engine and 86246 km. The parking assist has stopped working. The dashboard shows nothing, but the OBD reader shows an error in the error memory related to the parking aid. Any ideas where to start? Never worked with parking assist systems before.

Summary of the thread

The parking assist system in a 2004 Toyota Hiace stopped working, with no dashboard alerts but an OBD reader showing an error related to the parking aid. Possible causes include faulty radar sensors, damaged connections, or a malfunctioning control module. Suggested solutions involve checking the radar sensors located in the bumpers, inspecting wiring and plugs, and examining the control module, which may be behind the glove box or near the rear lights. Ultimately, a workshop identified and resolved a faulty connection as the issue.

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my Hiace, although I can't recall the error code exactly. Have you checked the radar sensors themselves? It could be a faulty connection or even a damaged sensor. The control module might be at fault too. Give the wiring a look!

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly are the radar sensors located? And how do I test the connections? Also, is the control module easy to access, or is it buried deep somewhere?

Okay, so the radar sensors, or proximity sensors as some call them, are usually located in the rear bumper, sometimes also in the front. Start there and check the plugs. And yes, a defective cable or plug connection of the component could be the cause. Regarding the control module, its placement can vary, but it is likely behind the glove box, or near the rear lights. If you are not very technically skilled, you might want to get it looked at by a workshop.

Appreciate the advice! I poked around a bit and couldn't find anything obvious. So I took it to a workshop and they reckon it was a dodgy connection as you suspected. Cost me 95€ to get it sorted. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
