Hiace preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota Hiace with a diesel engine is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. A diagnostic test indicated a defective glow control unit. Despite checking the cable and plug connections, the problem persisted. The solution involved replacing the faulty glow control unit, which resolved the issue.

The diagnostic test specifically mentioned the glow control unit. I am not sure about an error code, but the mechanic did mention something about it. Did you replace yours or was there something else?

Okay, mine turned out to be a faulty connection within the control unit itself. I tried cleaning it, but no luck. Ended up needing a new one. If the connections outside look good, it might be worth taking it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out you were right. I took it to a mechanic. They confirmed it was the control unit. The cable or plug connection was defective as initially suspected. Repair cost me 95€. All good now.

I had a similar problem with my Hiace a while back. Same symptoms: engine light, preheating issues. Did the diagnostic test point to the control unit itself or just a general error code?
