Hiace rain light sensor issue

My 2007 Toyota Hiace diesel, with 101336 km, has a weird rain-light sensor issue. Error’s stored, wipers won’t auto-wipe, headlights won’t come on, and even the speedo dimming’s gone bonkers. Lights are constantly switching on. I suspect it's bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Toyota Hiace experienced issues with the rain-light sensor, affecting the auto-wipe function, headlights, and speedometer dimming. The problem was suspected to be caused by bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield. The solution involved replacing the sensor, which resolved the issue.

Sounds familiar. I had similar gremlins in my '14 Skoda Octavia. The rain sensor went haywire and messed with other functions. I think the sensor calibration might've been off. Did you check this?

Calibration? Interesting idea! How did you check the calibration on your Skoda? Was it a DIY job, or did you need special tools?

I wasn't brave enough to mess with the calibration myself back then. I went straight to the workshop; they plugged it in, recalibrated it, and the problem was solved for a while! It was a known issue in some Skodas, I think.

I was hoping for a quick fix. Still, thanks for the insight! The gel pad was indeed the culprit. 62€ later, complete sensor change and now it's good to go!
