Hiace stiff vibrating steering

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2013 Toyota Hiace, diesel engine, with 96783 km on the clock. I've noticed that increased effort is required when steering, and the steering wheel is vibrating. It feels like the power steering is failing intermittently. Could a defective steering angle sensor be the problem?

I've had similar issues with my Hiace. It sounds like a faulty steering angle sensor to me. Was there any work done on the steering column recently, such as sensor replacement, before this started happening?

No, there has been no work done on the steering column or sensor recently. The symptoms just appeared suddenly. Is it possible that the coding of the steering angle sensor is faulty?

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. The vibrating steering wheel and the extra effort needed to steer were the exact same symptoms. I suggest going to a workshop, as it is likely the sensor needs to be recoded or replaced.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I took your advice and went to a workshop, and it turned out that the steering angle sensor was indeed defective. The sensor replacement and coding cost me 195€. Everything is working perfectly now. Thanks again!
