Hiace transmission oil pressure sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Toyota Hiace diesel with 66,043 km displayed an engine warning light, indicating a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. This issue caused the gearbox to enter emergency mode, resulting in jerky shifts and occasional grinding noises. A suggested solution was to check and top up the gearbox oil level, as low oil can trigger sensor errors and limp mode. After topping up the oil and clearing the codes, the problem was resolved, but if it recurs, a workshop visit may be necessary to address a potentially faulty sensor.

Interesting! I hadn't thought about that. Where is the gearbox oil level dipstick located? And what kind of oil does the Hiace take? Is it a standard ATF or something special?

On mine, the dipstick is under the vehicle, close to the gearbox itself. You might need to crawl under to find it. I'd check your owner's manual for the exact spec for the oil type. I topped mine up, cleared the codes, and the problem went away. If that doesn't fix it, I'd take it to a workshop. It could be a faulty sensor itself.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I checked the oil level, and it was indeed low. Topped it up, cleared the codes, and so far, so good! You saved me a bunch of money and headaches. I really appreciate it. If the problem comes back, I will go to the workshop. In the end, the repair bill was 365€.

I had something similar with my Hiace (newer model). Those sensors can be real buggers. Did you check your gearbox oil level? That was the culprit for me. When it got low, it threw sensor errors and put the transmission in limp mode.
