Highlander Airbag Warning Lamp
Summary of the thread
The airbag warning lamp in a 2003 Toyota Highlander is persistently illuminated, indicating a fault in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Possible causes include defective cables, plug connections, or corrosion, especially given the vehicle's age. It's advised to visit a workshop for a diagnostic check, as driving with the light on poses a safety risk due to potential airbag malfunction.

Thanks! Nope, haven't touched the seats or steering wheel lately. Just regular oil changes and tire rotations. Is there a common culprit I should be looking for, or am I just spinning my wheels trying to diagnose this myself? Is it safe to drive the car with the airbag light on?

It's difficult to pinpoint the exact cause without diagnostic tools. However, given the age of the vehicle and the mileage (83874 km), a defective cable or plug connection is plausible. Corrosion or loose connections can trigger the warning. Driving with the airbag light on means the system may not function properly in an accident. It's a safety risk. A workshop visit is advisable to read the fault codes and properly diagnose the system. They should also be able to estimate the repair cost. It will probably be around 95€.

Ugh, a workshop visit it is, then. I was really hoping to avoid that, but safety first, I guess. Thanks for the help! I'll let you know what they find.

The airbag warning lamp indicates a fault within the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Since it's consistently illuminated, it's unlikely to be a transient issue. The system monitors various components, including sensors, the airbag control module, and the airbags themselves. Have you had any recent work done on the car, especially anything involving the seats or steering wheel?
