Highlander Belt Tensioner

Alright, gearheads, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2003 Toyota Highlander, gasoline engine, is giving me grief. 82973 km on the clock. The belt drive's gone wonky – the belt-handover ain't working anymore, plain and simple. I'm betting it's the belt bringer/handover itself that's defective. Anyone else wrestled with this demon?

I had a similar issue on my Highlander. Serpentine belt acting up? Was there any belt squeal or excessive engine noise beforehand?

Yeah, there was some belt squeal that I unfortunately ignored, and a bit of a racket from the engine bay at idle. Is that what you experienced? Was it definitely the tensioner?

Sounds like it. I'd bet money on it. For me it was the tensioner. Take it to a shop. It's not catastrophic, but you don't want the belt failing completely.

Cheers! Took your advice, and you nailed it. Bad belt tensioner it was. Set me back 455€, but at least it's sorted now. Thanks for the heads-up!
