Highlander Charge Air Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Highlander experienced a check engine light, reduced power, and a loud hissing noise, with error codes indicating an issue with the charge air temperature sensor. The problem was suspected to be a bad connection or wiring issue with the sensor. After diagnosis, it was confirmed to be a corroded connector and damaged wire, which were repaired, resolving the issue.

The temperature gauge seems to be working normally. Does that still point to a connection issue with the charge air temperature sensor, or could it be another air sensor?

Since the gauge is normal, it reinforces a localized issue with the charge air temperature sensor or its wiring. Think of it like a single faulty lightbulb versus a power outage. While it could technically be something else, given the error code and symptoms, I'd advise having a workshop properly diagnose the sensor and wiring.

I took it to a local shop, and it was a corroded connector on the charge air temperature sensor, as you suspected. They cleaned the connection and replaced a short section of damaged wire, which fixed it! The total cost was 95€. I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious!

Sounds like a bad connection. The charge air temperature sensor is crucial for regulating airflow. A faulty connection can throw off readings, causing the engine to compensate, resulting in reduced power and noises. Is the temperature gauge behaving erratically?
