Highlander Key Battery Low Warning

My 2012 Toyota Highlander with a gasoline engine is showing a 'key battery low' warning. Keyless access isn't working, and there's an error message stored. Unlocking is also impaired. The car only has 51216 km. I suspect the key fob battery. Has anyone experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Toyota Highlander displayed a 'key battery low' warning, impairing keyless access and unlocking functions. The likely cause was identified as a low battery in the key fob. Replacing the battery resolved the issue, restoring full functionality to the key.

Yep, sounds like the fob battery. Easy fix. Have you tried replacing it yet?

No, not yet. I wanted to ask if there might be other causes, given the error message. Could a simple battery replacement reliably resolve the error?

It's almost certainly the battery. The error's likely just a consequence of the low voltage. But if you're worried, swing by a shop. They can confirm and replace it.

Thank you. I had the battery replaced at a workshop. The issue is resolved and the car key is working again. The total cost was 37€.
