Highlander Smoke and Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota Highlander is experiencing power loss, a check engine light, and smoke from the exhaust, potentially due to a crankcase ventilation valve issue. The erratic idle and roughness further suggest a problem with this valve. A workshop diagnosis confirmed the crankcase ventilation valve as the cause, leading to its replacement.

The idle is a bit erratic, fluctuating more than usual, and there's a slight, intermittent roughness. Does this point more to the crankcase ventilation valve, or could something else be involved?

Erratic idle and smoke certainly suggest the crankcase ventilation valve. It's likely defective. Given these symptoms, further diagnosis is needed. I'd advise taking it to a workshop for a thorough inspection.

I took it in for diagnostics, and the crankcase ventilation valve was indeed the problem. The repair cost 360€.

Smoke on acceleration suggests a crankcase ventilation issue. Reduced power could be related. How does the engine idle? Is it rough, or does it hunt for the correct RPM?
