Highlander Transfer Case Limp Mode

Hi, I've got a 2008 Toyota Highlander with a gasoline engine. It's got around 74547 km on the clock. Recently, it's gone into transfer case limp mode. What's odd is that the gearbox also slips and shifts uncleanly. Could this be consequential faults from the ABS system?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Toyota Highlander experienced transfer case limp mode, with symptoms including gearbox slipping and unclean shifting. The issue was suspected to be linked to the ABS system. After diagnosing the problem, it was found that errors in the ABS module were causing the faults. Fixing the ABS module resolved the gearbox issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had something similar happen in my Highlander. Unclean shifts and weird traction control behavior. Have you pulled any fault codes yet?

I haven't yet. I was hoping to avoid the hassle. What fault codes did you find?

It was a while ago, so I don't remember the exact codes, but it was ABS related, which caused the torque converter to act up. Honestly, with those symptoms, you might want to just have a workshop take a look. It could be the control module.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll book it in for a diagnosis. Turns out the ABS module was throwing all sorts of errors; fixed it and that solved all the gearbox issues. Cost me nothing as a friend helped me out.
