Hilux automatic gearbox issues

Hey, I've got a 2019 Toyota Hilux diesel that's giving me some grief. It's only done 25k km. The automatic gearbox is acting up – paddle shifters are useless, the shifts feel really rough, and sometimes it feels like it's slipping. I even hear grinding sometimes! It's like the paddle shifters are super laggy, and the gearbox went into emergency mode the other day. I scanned it, and there's an error code stored. Anyone seen this before? Thinking it might be the transmission control unit.

The symptoms you describe strongly suggest an issue with the transmission control unit, as you suspect. Have you checked the wiring harness and connections to the TCU for any signs of damage or corrosion? Also, what error code did the scan produce?

Thanks for the reply. I did give the wiring a quick look, didn't see anything obvious, but I'll check again more thoroughly. I can't remember the exact error code, but I can check later today. If it is the TCU, is it usually a replacement job, or can they sometimes be reprogrammed or repaired?

While reprogramming or repair might be possible in some scenarios, a defective TCU typically necessitates replacement to ensure reliable operation. Given the symptoms and the error code, I advise having a qualified workshop diagnose the issue definitively. Continuing to operate the vehicle in its current state could potentially cause further damage to the transmission.

Cheers for the advice! I took it to a shop and they confirmed it's a defective TCU. Quoted me about 1000€ for the replacement and coding. Bit of a pain, but at least I know what's up. Thanks again!
