Hilux Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
The 2001 Toyota Hilux diesel is experiencing coolant loss, accompanied by a check engine light and an error code. Potential causes include a head gasket issue or leaks in the radiator hoses. After checking for visible leaks and ensuring the cooling fan's functionality, a workshop visit revealed a small leak in a radiator hose, which was repaired.

Thanks! I haven't seen any visible coolant leaks, and the cooling fan seems fine. Where should I look for leaks around the radiator hoses specifically? Are there common failure spots on the Hilux?

It was hard to spot at first for me. Check the connections where the hoses attach to the engine block and radiator. Look for white residue, a sign of coolant. With those symptoms, I'd get the system pressure tested at a workshop.

Okay, thanks. I took it to a workshop, and it was a small leak in a radiator hose. Repair cost was 52€. Appreciate the help!

I also drive a Hilux diesel and had a similar problem recently. Started with the coolant light, then the check engine light. Have you checked for visible coolant leaks around the radiator hoses or water pump? Is your cooling fan working?
