Hilux incorrect temperature readings

I'm experiencing a peculiar issue with my 2021 Toyota Hilux fitted with a gasoline engine. At 126132 km, the instrument cluster occasionally displays incorrect temperature readings, the check engine light illuminates intermittently, and the engine is taking a noticeably longer time to reach its normal operating temperature. I've visually inspected the radiator grille for any obvious obstructions, but found none. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered similar symptoms? I suspect a defective fuse related to the cooling system, if there is one.

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Toyota Hilux is experiencing incorrect temperature readings, an intermittent check engine light, and delayed engine warm-up. The issue may be linked to a defective sensor in the radiator grille, affecting the vehicle's thermal management system. The problem was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor, which restored normal function.

Interesting. I had similar symptoms on my 2018 Volvo XC60. The engine was slow to warm up, and I eventually got a check engine light. It turned out the car's computer thought the radiator grille was blocked, which affected thermal management. What diagnostic trouble codes are you getting?

Regarding diagnostic trouble codes, are you referring to the OBD codes retrieved via a scan tool? If so, could you elaborate on which specific codes were triggered in your case with the Volvo XC60? I'd like to compare them with the ones my Hilux is throwing. By 'thermal management' do you mean the active grille shutter system, or some other sensor?

Yes, I was talking about the OBD codes. Unfortunately I did not write those down. As for 'thermal management' on the Volvo, I am indeed referring to its active grille shutter system's sensors. I'd suggest taking your Hilux to a trusted workshop for proper diagnosis and repair. They should be able to pinpoint the exact cause. Hope this helps you further.

I appreciate you confirming that. I took the car to the workshop, and it seems that one of the sensors for the radiator grille was indeed defective, which triggered the check engine light. The faulty sensor was replaced at a cost of 52€. Once again, thank you for your time and assistance!
