Hilux low oil pressure
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Toyota Hilux with a diesel engine and 93,630 km is experiencing low oil pressure, indicated by a warning lamp and loud mechanical noises. The owner suspects a defect in the oil pump after verifying there are no oil leaks and the oil level is correct. Another individual suggests considering a faulty oil pressure sensor as a potential cause, as it can trigger false warnings. The owner decides to consult a qualified mechanic to prevent further damage, acknowledging the complexity of the issue.

Thank you for your response. I had not considered the oil pressure sensor specifically. Could you elaborate on the symptoms your Opel exhibited, and were there any diagnostic steps you took to isolate the problem before addressing the oil pump or bearings?

Certainly. The Opel's symptoms were very similar: the oil pressure light, the knocking noise… it all pointed to low oil pressure. I initially suspected the oil pump, as you do. However, after checking the sensor and related wiring, the problem persisted. Eventually, I took it to a trusted workshop. I'd advise you to do the same to avoid further damage. The issue ended up being more complex than I initially thought.

Understood. Given your experience, I will consult with a qualified mechanic. It is prudent to avoid potential consequential damage. The estimated repair cost for the oil pump replacement is 755€. Thank you for sharing your insights; they have been most helpful.

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Opel Insignia, though the engine is quite different. The low oil pressure light would flicker intermittently, and there was a distinct knocking sound, especially when the engine was cold. Have you considered the oil pressure sensor as a possible culprit? A faulty sensor can sometimes trigger false warnings. Also, when was your last oil change? Old or incorrect oil viscosity could also contribute to this issue, though I understand you checked the level.
