Hilux Overheating Issue

I have a 2010 Toyota Hilux, diesel engine, with about 68989 km on the clock. Recently, it's started overheating, and the check engine light keeps popping up. I've checked the coolant levels, and they seem fine. Also, I don't see any visible leaks. I suspected a faulty thermostat, but after replacing it, the problem remains. I'm now suspecting the radiator fan. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Hilux too, and I had similar overheating problems. For me, it turned out to be the speed sensor for the radiator fan. The fan wasn't kicking in when it should, especially at lower speeds, which caused the engine to overheat. It’s kind of like when a runner doesn't sweat; they overheat.

Interesting. Where is that sensor located, and is it difficult to replace? Also, were your symptoms exactly the same? I'm trying to be sure before I start replacing parts.

The sensor is usually near the fan assembly itself, but I'm no expert. Honestly, I just took mine to a workshop when it happened. They diagnosed it pretty quickly and replaced it. If the fan isn’t spinning correctly, and you've already ruled out other cooling issues, it's worth getting it checked. It’s like when you have a weird noise in your car; sometimes, it’s better to have a professional listen.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on – it was indeed the speed sensor for the radiator fan. They replaced it, and the overheating issue is now resolved. Total cost was around 250€. I appreciate your help!
