Hilux Poor Starting and Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Hilux with a gasoline engine was experiencing poor starting, increased fuel consumption, reduced power, uneven idling, and occasional stalling. The suspected cause was a bad injection nozzle, potentially due to a dirty valve. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, it was confirmed that the injection nozzles were defective because of dirt, and replacing them resolved the issues.

Interesting, thanks! What readings stood out when you checked emissions, or was it just generally high? Did you try any cleaning additives before replacing parts?

The readings were way off for hydrocarbons, meaning incomplete combustion. I tried a fuel system cleaner, but it didn't help much. I had to get the injectors professionally cleaned. If it's the nozzle, a workshop visit is best. It could be more than just dirt.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to a workshop, and the injection nozzles were indeed defective because of dirt. They replaced them, and the Hilux runs great again. The repair was 515€ Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds familiar! My old Opel Astra, a diesel, had similar issues. Misfires and terrible performance. Turned out the fuel system was clogged. Have you checked your emissions? That's where I first noticed something was up.
