Hilux transmission issues

I'm having a strange issue with my 2014 Toyota Hilux, diesel engine. It's only done 41057 km. The transmission indicator light and check engine light keep coming on. The automatic transmission goes into what feels like emergency mode, and it doesn't shift properly. Sometimes it slips, other times it shifts really uncleanly, and I even hear grinding noises when it changes gears. I scanned it and there's an error stored. Could this be related to the radiator oil pressure? I'm wondering if a defective cable or plug connection to that component could be the cause? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Interesting. I had similar symptoms on my Hilux. Was the oil cooler checked? Could it be a radiator coolant problem?

Thanks for the quick response! The oil cooler hasn't been specifically checked. Is it possible that a radiator coolant issue could cause all these transmission problems? I thought coolant was mainly for engine temperature. And, if it is the oil cooler, how would I diagnose that?

Yes, a coolant leak into the transmission cooler (which is part of the radiator) can definitely cause these symptoms. If coolant mixes with the transmission fluid, it can wreak havoc. It's probably best to take it to a workshop to confirm, but that was the cause in my case.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on. It was indeed a defective cable or plug connection, which was causing issues with the radiator oil pressure. Cost me 95€ to repair. Appreciate the help!
