Hilux water sensor error

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2005 Toyota Hilux diesel. The check engine light keeps popping on, and when I hook it up to a reader, it throws an error related to the water sensor. The engine also runs a bit rough sometimes. I've checked the basics, like the sensor itself, but I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? Could it be the wiring or the plug connection? I'm not sure where to start looking next.

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Toyota Hilux diesel is experiencing a check engine light and rough engine performance, with an error code indicating a water sensor issue. The problem may stem from a faulty sensor, corroded wiring, or a damaged plug connection. Suggested solutions include inspecting the sensor, wiring, and plug for corrosion or damage, and considering professional diagnosis to prevent further issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Water sensor issue, huh? I had something similar with my Hilux (not sure about the year, though). Check the cable and the plug going to the sensor. They can get corroded or damaged. Is the sensor new or original? A faulty sensor can cause a world of problems.

Thanks for the tip! When you say 'similar', do you mean the exact same symptoms – check engine light, error code, and rough running? Where exactly should I be looking for corrosion on the cable and plug? Is there a specific part of the wiring that's prone to failing?

Yeah, pretty much the same deal. Check engine light and rough idle, eventually traced it back to a dodgy connection. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable with auto electrics, it might be worth getting a workshop to take a look. They'll have the tools to properly test the sensor and wiring. Will save you a lot of time and possibly prevent further damage.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I'll check the connection again, but I think I'll probably take it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Sounds like an electrical fault is the most likely culprit. It was a defective plug on the water sensor and it cost me 95€ to fix.
