Honda Brio Power Loss Whistling Noise

My 2021 Honda Brio (gasoline engine, 92,000 km) has a check engine light, power loss, awful engine response, and a whistling noise during acceleration. It sometimes stalls when idling, and fuel consumption is up. Could it be a boost pressure actuator fault? Any ideas what to check?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Honda Brio experienced power loss, poor engine response, a whistling noise during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light. These symptoms suggested a potential issue with the boost pressure actuator. After consulting with others and considering the symptoms, it was advised to have the vehicle inspected by a professional. The workshop confirmed the problem was indeed the boost pressure actuator, which was replaced, resolving the issues.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my 2017 Opel Astra (diesel): check engine light, loss of power, weird noises. For me, it was a defective electrical bypass valve. Does the Brio have something similar controlling the turbo boost?

An electrical bypass valve? Where is that usually located, and could I check it myself without specialized tools? Is it linked to the pressure sensor or the turbocharger?

On my Astra, it was near the turbocharger, easy to see. It is hard to check without proper tools, you could check electrical connections, but not much more. Given all those symptoms—the light, power loss, and noises—and the mileage, you might have a boost leak or something wrong with the actuator itself. I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. Best case it's a simple fix, worst case, you prevent further damage. I learned that the hard way!

I appreciate the advice! I'll take it to a shop since it's probably beyond my skillset to properly diagnose and fix. You were spot on! The workshop confirmed it was indeed the boost pressure actuator. Cost me around 250€ to get it replaced, but the car is running like new again. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
