Honda BRV Oil Pressure Warning

I'm sweating! My 2018 Honda BR-V with a diesel engine is throwing up some nasty signals. The warning light in the speedometer popped on, and the oil pressure warning lamp is now a permanent fixture. The car has clocked 110272 km. I suspect engine oil contamination and I’m terrified. I checked the dipstick and the oil color is not healthy. Could this be the death knell?

Whoa, sounds rough! I drive a BR-V too, and a while back I had similar symptoms. Did you check for any obvious oil leaks? What's your maintenance schedule been like? Are you using any oil additives?

No obvious leaks that I can see. As for the schedule, I may have stretched the maintenance interval a bit, to be honest. The last oil change was maybe 15000 km ago. Could that be the culprit? And no, no oil additives. Could old oil really cause all this?

Yeah, exceeding the maintenance interval is likely the cause of your problems. I had the exact same issue. Get it into a workshop ASAP to avoid serious damage. I’d strongly advise against driving it more than absolutely necessary. It's worth it just to be sure.

You were spot on. Took it to the workshop, and it turned out the engine oil was indeed contaminated due to the extended maintenance interval. An oil change, new filter, and a bit of TLC later, it's purring like a kitten. Cost me 165€, but could have been much worse. Thanks for the kick in the pants to get it sorted!
