Honda Freed weak start flickering lights

I'm hoping someone can help diagnose a weird issue with my 2018 Honda Freed hybrid. It's got about 247345 km on the clock. Lately, I've noticed the car struggling to start sometimes, like the battery is weak. Also, the lights have been flickering a bit, especially at idle. I suspect a bad battery sensor, but I wanted a second opinion before I start throwing parts at it. Anyone experienced something similar? I know these hybrid systems can be sensitive, and a malfunctioning battery sensor can definitely cause havoc with the charging system, leading to these symptoms. Plus, inaccurate voltage readings mess with everything!

Summary of the thread

The 2018 Honda Freed hybrid is experiencing weak starts and flickering lights, particularly at idle, suggesting a potential issue with the battery or its sensor. A faulty battery sensor can disrupt the charging system and cause inaccurate voltage readings, leading to these symptoms. The problem was confirmed to be a defective battery sensor, which was resolved by a mechanic, restoring the car's functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had almost the same thing happen with my old Vauxhall Corsa a few years back. Different car, I know, but the symptoms were spot on: weak starts and dodgy lights. I thought it was just the cold weather at first, you know?

Interesting! So, what ended up being the problem with your Corsa? Was it a sensor issue too? And if so, how did you figure it out? Did you do any testing yourself, or did you just take it straight to a mechanic?

Yeah, it turned out to be a faulty battery sensor. I didn't mess with it myself; electrics aren't my thing. Took it to a workshop, they ran some tests, and that's what they found. Honestly, given your hybrid system, I'd strongly recommend getting it checked out by a pro. Those systems can be tricky!

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the insight. I'll take it to my mechanic and have them check the battery sensor. I had a feeling it was something like that. Turns out the battery sensor was indeed defective. The whole repair, including the part and labor, cost me around 315€. Everything works perfectly again!
