Honda Grace engine stalls at idle
Summary of the thread
The 2016 Honda Grace experienced engine stalling at idle, accompanied by a check engine light and stored error codes. The problem was identified as rough idling due to excessive carbon buildup in the throttle body and a malfunctioning idle air control valve. The suggested solution was to clean the throttle body and replace the faulty valve, which resolved the issue after a visit to a workshop.

Thanks for the reply. Rough idling is present. Where exactly is the throttle body located, and what should I look for in terms of 'excessive carbon buildup'?

You're welcome. The throttle body is typically located between the air intake and the intake manifold. It controls the amount of air entering the engine. 'Excessive carbon buildup' refers to a significant accumulation of carbon deposits within the throttle body, which can restrict airflow and disrupt the engine's ability to maintain a stable idle speed. Given your description, I recommend taking your Honda Grace to a reputable workshop for a thorough diagnosis. It's possible the idle air control valve is malfunctioning due to this contamination. They will have the proper tools and expertise to accurately diagnose and resolve the issue.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right. The intake was heavily contaminated, and the idle air control valve was bad. Repair cost me 425€, but it's running smoothly now.

Greetings. Your symptoms sound very familiar. I had a similar issue with my 2018 Opel Insignia, though it was a diesel. The check engine light, stored error codes, and engine stalling, especially at idle, point towards issues with the engine's idle speed control. Have you noticed any rough idling or fluctuations in the RPMs when the engine is idling? Have you checked the throttle body for excessive carbon buildup?
